Nimbu Yumbu Surf School Costa Rica

Nimbu Yumbu Surf School is a locally owned surf school in central Tamarindo, on the west side of Cabinas Coral Reef. It was founded by Yury Alvarez, a Tamarindo native with more than 13 years of coaching experience. The coaches are certified by the International Surfing Association (ISA) and International Life Saving (ILS).

The school offers group lessons for up to three people, as well as semi-private and private lessons, for beginner, intermediate and advanced surfers from age 5. All equipment is included. It also runs surf trips by car or boat to spots such as Playa Grande, Avellanas, Playa Negra, Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point. The school has a small surf shop and café, and it can arrange tours and other activities.

The school is consistently well reviewed. Families with children and first-time surfers praise the patient, safety-focused coaches and clear communication when booking. Experienced surfers also report useful tips to improve their technique.
